Uthman urges Iraqi Sunni, Shiite leaders to unite
Iraq, Politics, 4/23/2007

A member of the Society of Iraqi Ulema (religious leaders) Sheikh Amer Kamel al-Uthman today called for strongly dealing with the "plots and conspiracies of the remnants of Saddam's regime and of the blasphemous groups."

Al-Uthman told Iran's Al-Alam TV that the blasphemous groups and remnants of former Iraqi ruler Saddam Hussein's dictatorial regime are responsible for the disorder and chaos in Iraq.

Pointing to recent meetings of the Sunni and Shiite religious leaders in Basra and Najaf, Iraq, Al-Uthman said "the meetings aimed at drawing up a comprehensive plan to foil plots of the groups being backed by enemies of Islam."

He added that such meetings of Iraqi Shiites and Sunni Muslims have been successful in easing tension in the country, that is occupied by foreigners.

The Iraqi religious leader called on Iraqi Sunni and Shiite leaders to be united to save Iraq and deal with the challenges facing the nation.
