Abbas meets Jordanian officials; no peace without comprehensive solution

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met today with Jordan's Prime Minister, Marouf Bakhit, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdul Ilah Khatib, in Amman city, and briefed them on the latest developments in the Palestinian territories and the results emerged form his meeting with Israeli Primer, Ehud Olmert.

They also tackled the exerted efforts to push the peace process forward and the possible ways to end international siege imposed on the Palestinian people.

Meantime, Jordanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdul Ilah Khatib affirmed that the Palestinian cause is the core of the conflict in the region and peace and stability can not be achieved unless reaching a comprehensive and just solution.

Jordanian News Agency PETRA reported that during a round of talks with Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni in the Dead Sea resort, Khatib discussed with Livni ways to resume negotiations between the Palestinian -Israeli sides, specially after the meeting held between Abbas and Olmert.

Khatib stressed the necessity to push the peace process forward, as negotiating is the only means that provides a just solution and guarantees the rights of the Palestinian people and establishment of an independent state on his national soil.

Meantime, Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that "In her meeting on Monday (April 16) with the special Chinese envoy to the Middle East, Mr. Sun Bigan, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni said, 'There is no intention that Arab states should replace direct Israel-Palestinian channels, but they certainly can and should support them."
