Common Iranian resolve on the Nuclear issue
Iran-UN, Politics, 4/16/2007
Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini today, referring to the remarks of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) chief, said that as Mohamed ElBaradei is aware, the idea of a Middle East free from nuclear weapons was first brought up at the United Nations by Iran and Egypt in the 70s.
The remark was made while expressing his view on ElBaradei's recent statements in Jordan. "IAEA chief remembers that as an NPT member, Iran has always underlined that it is committed to this treaty," he added.
Turning to ElBaradei's acknowledgment that Iran has never deviated from peaceful path in its nuclear activities, he said that Iran's nuclear activities have always been transparent. The spokesman said that unrealistic interpretations and hypotheses on a country's intentions, specially under conditions that there is no cause for concern over Iran's nuclear activities for peaceful purposes, will not contribute to promotion of peace and security in the region.
ElBaradei said Sunday that Iran's nuclear issue can only be solved through talks.
ElBaradei made the statement in a press conference after meeting Jordan's King Abdullah II.
He urged the need for distinction between nuclear weapons and concern over Iran's nuclear program for peaceful purposes.
"We have not observed any nuclear activity in Iran for military purposes and no clandestine operations are underway to this end in the country. "The country's nuclear programs over the next 5-10 years require concern, rather than its present activities," he added.
Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini said yesterday that a report by inspectors of the IAEA would remove possible ambiguities regarding Iran's nuclear program. Hosseini made the remark while speaking to domestic and foreign reporters at his weekly press conference. "The IAEA's inspectors are currently present at Iran's Natanz nuclear site. The inspectors will draw up their report on the latest developments in Iran's nuclear program and will present it to the agency's chief Mohammed ElBaradei," he said.
Meantime, Head of Iran's Customs Administration Mohammad Hashem Rahbari said today "Those who impose sanctions on Iran should be confident that sanctions will not harm the Islamic Republic of Iran alone, rather they will lose a 70-million-people market which imported 41 billion dollars worth of goods last year."
A member of Iran's Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission said on Sunday that Western states should change their views about Iranian nuclear program. "The Western states opposing Iranian nuclear program should know that the process is irreversible," Hamid-Reza Haji-Babaei he said.
"Access to peaceful nuclear energy is a right of the Iranian nation and government. Approach of the opposing countries will have no effect on process of Iranian nuclear program," he said.
Iran's Expediency Council Chairman Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said yesterday that peaceful use of nuclear energy is a serious discussion between Iran and the parties involved particularly the Western states. He said that these countries are using the nuclear program as a pretext to their enmity towards Iran.
Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadi-Nejad said today that those believing that they can manage to infiltrate the Iranian nation by exerting pressure and issuing consecutive resolutions against Iran are mistaken.
"The enemies are aware that they can hardly undermine the will of the Iranian nation by exerting pressures on and launching propaganda against it. They know that even the heavy 20-year economic blockade against our nation was futile.
"The message of our nation to the enemies is to end monopolies, arrogance and violation of nations rights as well as officially recognize the rights of all nations," he added.
Ahmadi-Nejad said that today the nation calls for full use of the capacity of nuclear energy as well as using this type of energy in the fields of agriculture, industries, medicine and power generation.
Ahmadi-Nejad also said on Monday that Iranians are men of dialogue and logic. "Our nation favors dialogue and logic. The logic of our nation is the logic of justice, law and equality for all before law. And it is different from the logic of bullying powers, despots and oppressors," said President Ahmadi-Nejad in an address to a group of people in provincial city of Mamasani.
He said Iranians at large support materialization of all their nuclear rights. "Today, full materialization of all its nuclear rights is the demand of entire Iranian nation. If they think that they can through psychological pressure and issuance of resolutions impede our nation's progress, they should know that they are mistaken. The Iranian nation, the old and young-- wherever they are, stress their absolute right for (peaceful use of) nuclear energy," said the president.
"We invite you (the bullying powers) to law, justice, peace and fraternity. This is to the benefit of you, humanity and your nations," he said.
He reiterated that the Iranian nation could not be misled and they are united in their cause.
"Friendship with nations would be in your interest. Friendship with the Iranian nation would be to your benefit. The Iranian nation favors peace, fraternity and tranquility. The Iranian nation has never in the course of history violated rights of any nation. But you know and should bear it in mind one more time that the (Iranian) nation strongly defends all its rights and will not give up the rights even one iota."
"Since they stepped in Iraq, the Iraqi nation has not witnessed even a single day of peace, welfare, happiness and hope. Their behavior and conduct are the same all over the world. In Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Africa, Asia and anywhere they stepped in, there has been nothing but poverty, discrimination and unhappiness of nations. They have even kept their own nations in ignorance and under pressure so as to meet their own wishes and objectives."
He criticized the big powers' policy of military buildup in different parts of the world.
