Iran, Lebanon's Nabatieh province economic cooperation

Iran's economic attache in Lebanon, Mehdi Bornaie and a number of Lebanese tradesmen and industrialists from Nabatieh province in a meeting on Saturday discussed the prospect of economic cooperation between Iran and this southern province.

Bornaie attended the meeting in response to the invitation of he head of Nabatieh Tradesmen Association Abdullah Bitar.

After the meeting, which was also attended by a number of Lebanese economic officials, the Iranian diplomat said that expansion of cooperation in the domain of agriculture, including production of olive, and manufacturing power generators were on the agenda of talks.

"Meanwhile, at the meeting, the mayor of Nabatieh presented a report on the reconstruction trend of the areas destroyed during the Zionist regime's attack on Southern Lebanon last summer, a part of which being carried out by Iran," he added.

The Iranian attache said that during the meeting, participants were briefed on Iran's potentials in industrial and agricultural fields as well as rendering technical and engineering services.

He put the present volume of economic exchanges between the two countries at 100 million dollars, adding that the goods supplied by Iran, including machinery, automobiles, carpet and pistachio among others were worth 90 million dollars.

"Lebanon's exported goods to Iran, which are worth 10 million dollars, include semi-manufactured products or goods of European origin," he added.

Bornaie said that Lebanese tradesmen also play a decisive role in exporting Iranian goods to Africa.
