Egytian exports up to $ 19 billion

Egyptian exports in 2006 increased to US $ 19 billion from $ 14 billion in 2005 according to a report presented to Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif about the achievements of the Ministry of Trade and Industry in the first year of President Hosni Mubarak's electoral program.
According to the report, financing for export projects stood at L.E. 974 million, generating 5,700 new job opportunities.
The Export Development Bank of Egypt contributions to small and medium-sized industries last year amounted to L.E. 82 million. The money funded 42 projects in numerous sector.
The net volume of Egyptian exports to the US posted a 167% increase to US $ 164.7 million.
Over the past year, the ministry has managed to tap new markets, reactivate a number of old economic and trade agreements ( for instance Agadir agreement among Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco and Jordan) and conclude new ones ( a free trade agreement with Turkey, a trade and investment cooperation protocol with China and a deal with Russia to set up a joint industrial zone in Egypt as a step towards signing a joint free trade agreement).
