British MEP to travel to Iran to discuss nuclear issue
Iran-UK, Politics, 2/26/2007

British Member of the European Parliament, Baroness Emma Nicholson, said she will be traveling to Tehran soon to discuss the peaceful use of nuclear energy with Iranian officials.

"I hope to be in Iran soon to discuss with the Iranians," Nicholson said.

Nicholson said she personally supports the use of nuclear energy because oil and coal are causing severe environmental pollution and climate changes.

"We have to, however, find ways to deal with the nuclear waste," added Nicholson who is the vice chairperson of the European Parliament's committee on Foreign Affairs and a member of the EP's delegation for relations with Iran.

Underscoring the need for the Middle East region free of nuclear weapons, she said she wanted to see peace prevail in the region.

Nicholson heads the AMAR charity organization which was engaged in providing basic health care and education for Marsh Arabs in southern Iraq who had sought refuge in Iran under the late Saddam's rule.

The organization has expanded its activities to emergency relief and medical training in Lebanon and is providing primary health care and sanitary projects for Afghan refugees in Iran.
