Iran ready to host comprehensive Mideast security conference

Iran is ready to host a comprehensive Middle East security conference aimed at promoting peace and stability in the region, said the Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani on Sunday in his speech to the 43rd Munich Conference on Security Policy.

Larijani reaffirmed his country's commitment to help boost regional security.

He stressed that an international and regional security order could only be sustained if it is underpinned by mutual understanding.

The Iranian official warned that the policy of monopolization of international security cannot ensure a sustainable order and peace.

"Security is not a one-way road. A sustainable security requires mutual understanding and close attention to the main ingredients of security. Security ought not to be approached as a trade," he said.

Mutual understanding is tied to constructive diplomacy and constructive diplomacy requires a common will and common will entails shared opportunities, he added.

Larijani arrived Saturday for the Munich security meeting, attended by around 500 leading political decision-makers from 40 country.
