Iran warns US of any military acts
Iran-USA, Politics, 2/4/2007

Iran's Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi warned yesterday that the US had better avoid any military engagement with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

"Because, military engagement with Iran will prove that the US is devoid of superiority in the globe," he said.

Safavi made the remarks in his meeting with the IRGC navy terming the current regional and global situation as tense.

He said that since four years ago, the trans-regional powers have occupied the region with the aim of controlling energy resources in Iraq and the entire region, supporting the illegitimate Israeli government which carries out US policies, proceeding with the strategy of new Middle East and confrontation with independent states of the region.

Occupation of Afghanistan and Iraq helped them play stronger role in the region, he pointed out.

"The fact is that the US has failed to materialize its goals and not only the new Middle East region has not come out of the occupation, but instead, the Islamic Middle East emerges," he said.

The current situation in Iraq has jeopardized the US interests, he said adding that the US administration adopted a wrong policy which prompted hatred of international community, he said.

The US wants to put the blames for its failure on others and try to introduce Iran as the real cause of the failures, he said adding that the influence of Iran and its effective impacts on regional and international developments, increasing power of Shiites Muslims and formation of a parliament, government and Islamic Constitution of Iraq are the root cause of US concerns which have emerged in US psychological war against Iran, he said.

28 years after triumph of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, Iranian leadership, nation and its armed forces and IRGC with over ten million members of Basij (voluntary forces) are well-prepared to defend the Islamic Revolution and Iranian territorial integrity, underlined the commander.

Iran calls for restoration of peace, security and tranquility in the region and believes that presence of US forces and its allies is the only cause of instability in the Middle East region, he said.

He said that Iran never wants to interfere in domestic affairs of other countries and wish to help restore peace and tranquility in the Persian Gulf region and in Iraq through collective cooperation of regional countries.

"The Iranian armed forces are ready to strongly defend the country's territorial integrity and give a crushing response to all intruders." He lauded the high morale and spirit of IRGC navy forces in defending Iranian national interests.

Meantime, Iran's Ambassador to South Africa Mohammad Ali Qane'zadeh Friday said that force imposed on regional countries has led to escalation of violence and terrorist acts. He said "Washington's policies have not improved chances for achieving international peace and security but have instead fanned the flames of violence and terrorism in the Middle East region."

Pointing to the 26 national and local elections held in Iran since after the victory of the Islamic Revolution, he said this was proof of the fact that "the Islamic Republic of Iran is the most democratic country in the Middle East."

Meantime, substitute Friday Prayers Leader of Tehran Hojjatoleslam Ahmad Khatami said Friday the US threats against Iran are outdated for every individual within Iranian government and nation. Referring to the bullying of some US officials in recent days, including anti-Iranian remarks by the US Under-Secretary of State, he further reiterated, "Time has long been past for such literature and the American leaders have to learn the appropriate diplomatic language for talking with the world nations."

Hojjatoleslam Khatami added that the US officials keep threatening Iran, but they had better realize that that is the silliest political approach adopted towards a nation that follows the path of its third infallible Imam Hussain (PBUH) and martyrdom culture. He said that the Iranians would respond to the US officials in their Bahman 22 rallies, marking 27th anniversary of their Islamic Revolution's victory, proving once again that "The US cannot do a damn thing."

Khatami meanwhile asked the people to maintain their alertness and to keep high their spirit in the face of the boosted psychological campaign.
He said, "An American official comes (to region) saying we would attack Iran and another one says no, we wont, and this is exactly a psychological war, that is quite outdated and ineffective today."
