Jordan: Iran has right to peaceful nuclear technology
Jordan-Iran, Politics, 2/4/2007
Jordanian Foreign Minister Abdulllah al-Khatib underlined Iran's right to access peaceful nuclear technology.
Speaking in a conference dubbed as "Current Middle East" yesterday, al-Khatib said, "Jordan's basic stance concerning this issue is based on the principle that every government has the right to access peaceful nuclear technology and this right has also been observed in the IAEA's regulations.
He said, "Our stance is Middle East without weapons of mass destruction and we insist on it." Concerning the issue called "Shiite Crescent," al-Khatib said it has a political intention and we do not like to see Iran-Arab confrontation in the region.
He added, "We wish to have healthy relations with Iran upon mutual respect and on the basis of non-interference in each others' internal affairs." Referring to the Palestinian issue, al-Khatib underlined the importance of unity among Palestinian groups.
