Iranian speaker: Saddam as Arab champion is insult to Arabs
Iraq-Iran, Politics, 2/4/2007
Iran's Majlis (parliament) Speaker Gholam-Ali Haddad Adel today said that introducing Saddam Hussein as an Arab champion is the worst insult to the Arab states.
Haddad Adel made the remarks in a meeting with head of Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution of Iraq (SCIRI) Abd al-Aziz Hakim.
Majlis speaker also said that Iranian government and people call for the establishment of stability and security required for maintenance of territorial integrity of Iraq.
Describing an integrated, independent and powerful Iraq as beneficial for all world nations including regional and neighboring countries, he added that the more peace, tranquility and stability in Iraq means the more security in adjacent states.
Pointing to the 27-year experience of Iran's Majlis, he expressed readiness to cooperate with the Iraqi parliament in different arenas.
"The Research Center of the Majlis is ready to train Iraqi experts in all fields," he said.
For his part, al-Hakim expressed congratulations on the occasion of the 27th anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution of Iran under the leadership of the Late Imam Khomeini as the greatest event in the Islamic world in the recent century.
He termed the Islamic Revolution of Iran as the beginning of an era for vigilance of Muslim nations.
Presenting a report of the recent developments in Iraq, he noted that the most important objective of the enemies of the Iraqi nation is that they will foment division between Shiite and Sunni Muslims.
"We make our all-out efforts to foil their plots, otherwise such a sectarian conflict will engulf all Muslim countries," al-Hakim added.
Hakim, who is also head of United Iraq alliance (UIA), called Iranian people as Iraq's historical and long standing friend. He thanked Iranian material and spiritual supports, and the efforts in establishing solidarity among Muslims.
