Mubarak: Mini summit in Libya on Arab and African issues
Egypt-Regional, Politics, 1/20/2007
Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak said he will take part in a five-way summit to be held in Libya next week to discuss Arab and African issues.
He said the leaders of Libya, Algeria, Tunisia and Sudan will be present.
President Mubarak revealed that Egypt in consultation with several Arab states has floated a new initiative to solve the Palestinian problem.
He added that an Egyptian team would fly for Washington in February to exchange views on this initiative and discuss means of propelling the Mideast peace process.
Asked about the new US strategy in Iraq, President Mubarak hoped that it would succeed on the ground as its impact would benefit the people of Iraq and bring about stability to the entire region.
