Ahmadi-Nejad urges independent states to thwart bullying
Sudan-Iran, Politics, 1/20/2007
Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadi-Nejad in a meeting with Sudan's Minister of Defense Abdel Rahim Mohammed Hussein in Tehran Thursday said that independent governments, such as that of Sudan, should thwart the threats of bullying powers through resistance and promotion of their people's vigilance.
According to a report released by the Presidential Office Media Department, during the meeting, the Sudanese minister submitted the message of President Omar Hassan al-Bashir to Ahmadi-Nejad.
The chief executive said that various threats of the US and some Western states against independent countries and governments, in particular the Islamic ones, aim to dominate the nations' interests.
"Sowing seed of discord among Muslims, namely Sunnis and Shiites, aim to secure the interests of colonial and Zionist powers. Through formation of the Zionist regime and occupation of Islamic states, the bullying countries intend to disintegrate and divide big and powerful Islamic states. However, Muslim nations should thwart such a threat through unity and vigilance," he added.
Turning to the attempts of some big powers to deploy foreign troops in Sudan, the president said that such a move aims to materialize their own colonial goals and question that country's independence.
"Security and stability of Darfur area will be established by the Sudanese people and peace-keeping forces from African countries," he added.
Stating that given their numerous interests and capabilities, the independent Islamic states can complement and support one another in various fields, he said that Iran is prepared to make its valuable experiences and achievements in various domains available to independent Islamic countries, including those of African continent.
Ahmadi-Nejad pointed to the political and cultural commonalties between the two states in different regional as well as international issues and noted that Iran sees no restriction on expansion of its economic and trade ties with Sudan. He urged the need for raising the level of such relations.
On his part, Mohammed Hussein presented a report on the latest developments in Sudan and Darfur area.
He referred to the attempts of bullying powers to continue insecurity and genocide of people in Sudan, adding that by relying on the support of people, the Sudanese government is seeking to establish sustainable peace and security in Darfur area and prevent people's genocide.
Underlining that Iran-Sudan ties in other field should also broaden, similar to their political relations, he expressed his country's will to use Iran's experience in various sectors, such as supply of energy, oil and gas, construction, industries and medical treatment.
At the meeting, the Sudanese minister also submitted the official invitation of his country's president to Ahmadi-Nejad for a visit to Sudan.
