Nasrullah: US revived Middle East plan a failure

The Lebanese Hizbullah's Secretary-General Hassan Nasrullah today referred to the Israel's recent aggression against south Lebanon as a move intended to have ramifications far beyond annihilation of Hizbullah.

He said the US was also intent on realizing its new Middle East plan but was met with failure. His remarks were made during an interview with Al-Manar TV Friday night.

Turning to the remarks of US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice who described the Israeli-imposed war as the birth pangs of a new Middle East, he said "the massive Lebanon aggression aimed to provide the Israeli army with the opportunity to prepare the ground for realizing the new Middle East plan." "However, the resistance of the Lebanese nation caused the plan to die."

He said that the objective of the aggression was far beyond seeking release of the two detained Israeli soldiers, and noted that Israel's defense minister had repeatedly said that the release of the two detainees was only a secondary goal.

"Israel is now in danger and Israelis themselves, who are very much aware of developments, admit it. This is not only an issue brought up by Hizbullah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad or other Islamic groups," he concluded.
