Iran, Lebanon discuss regional political developments
Lebanon-Iran, Politics, 1/6/2007
Iran and Lebanon yesterday discussed the latest regional political developments particularly the issues of Iraq and Palestine and political efforts to settle the ongoing crisis in Lebanon.
The issues were discussed during a meeting held between Iran's Ambassador to Lebanon Mohammad-Reza Sheibani and Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri in Beirut.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Sheibani said, "The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to support any political plan supported by all Lebanese sides in line with the country's national interests." Tehran respects democratic and independent political will of the Lebanese nation, he added.
Asked whether Tehran would invite Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora to visit Iran to discuss the latest developments in that country, he said Iran warmly welcomes all political groups.
"In case of a suitable political situation, any political leader can visit Iran provided that the visit would be constructive and within the frameworks of Lebanon's interests," he added.
Sheibani stressed that Iran supports Lebanon and makes efforts to settle the existing problems.
