Egypt does not need permission for civil nuclear activity
Egypt, Politics, 10/31/2006

Ambassador Suleiman Awwad, Egypt Presidential Spokesman, said that the President reiterated that Egypt is a sovereign country which does not seek permission from any foreign parties before re-launching its nuclear program.

The President said when Egypt completes studies on this issue, it will seek to get power generation technology according to the highest nuclear safety standards, the best costs and offers.

The spokesman quoted President Mubarak as having said that Egypt was part of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). Egypt, said Mubarak, adheres to its international commitments.
Egypt, added Mubarak, is keen on harnessing atomic power for peaceful purposes in the light of its limited natural resources of oil and gas.

Egypt will seek to use nuclear power for generating electricity in line with the nuclear safety preconditions, Mubarak explained.
