Iran's nuclear achievements immune from threats
Iran-UN, Politics, 10/31/2006

Iran's Majlis Representative from Tehran Ahmad Tavakkoli said on Tuesday that the United States which has staged military exercise in the Persian Gulf waters is working hard at the same time for passing a UN resolution against Iran.

He told reporters on the sidelines of Majlis formal session, he said US military presence in the Persian Gulf waters has posed a threat to the regional nations.

He said US military presence in the Persian Gulf waters is regarded as a "threat to all of us."

On Iran's legitimate stands on nuclear activities, he said "We are to meet our technological demands in the long run." He said that Iran needs nuclear energy to generate electricity.

It is important for the western countries to deprive Iran of access to nuclear technology, he said, adding that "We are determined to make use of our legal and legitimate rights."

There is no doubt that no country in the world should submit to any resolution which might deprive them of sciences, he underlined.

Deputy Head of Russia's State Duma Yuri Volkov said that his country will continue its attempt to give momentum to talks between Iran's top nuclear negotiator, Ali Larijani and the European Union Foreign Policy Chief Javier Solana.
According to a statement today, Volkov underlined that the United Nations Security Council should avoid adopting a military option in dealing with Iran's nuclear case under any pretext.
Turning to his contacts with Iranian officials, he said that pressure and ultimatum against Iran will only increase anti-West sentiments of the Iranian people, which will only benefit hardliners.
"The remaining ambiguities over Iran's nuclear programs cannot be a cause for military action against the country," he added.
Volkov warned against any military action in this case and said that it will mean a full-fledged conflict between East and West.
He pointed to the EU3 proposed draft-resolution on Iran's nuclear issue and said that lack of interest in constructive talks between Iran and big powers will reduce the chance of solving the issue through diplomatic means.
Sanctions have been proposed against Iran in the draft-resolution submitted to the UNSC last week by the three European Union members namely France, Britain and Germany.
According to Los Angles Times daily, at the recent meeting of UNSC permanent members plus Germany (5+1 group) at the British Representative Office in the UN, discord among the group was revealed.
"Russia and China are against such a draft-resolution, given that it considers Iran as a threat to international peace as well as security and bans any trade in the field of nuclear and missile technology," added the daily.
Russian President Vladimir Putin in a phone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Monday night urged the need to continue nuclear talks.

Iran's Ambassador to Japan Mohsen Talaie today said that Iran's nuclear achievements cannot be challenged.

He made the remark in an interview with Japan's Kyodo News, adding that Iran will never produce weapons of mass destruction (WMD) under any condition, given that it is itself a victim of WMD.
The Iranian diplomat said that as a committed NPT member, Iran underlines its right to access nuclear technology.

Underlining that access to nuclear energy for peaceful purposes is the inalienable and legitimate right of all world nations, including the Iranian, he said that sending Iran's nuclear dossier to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is illegal and taken under the pressure of some Western powers.
