Iran's nuclear program no threat to Arab states: Jordanian military expert
Regional-Iran, Politics, 10/3/2006
A Jordanian military expert today said that the Arab states, particularly those in the Persian Gulf, should not be afraid of Iranian nuclear program.
Isa al-Khatib said that Iran's nuclear program is not aimed at Arab states, and there is no need to be afraid of the country's activities since it does not pursue expansionist policy in the region.
The retired army general stipulated that the US wants to depict Iran as a threat to regional countries in order to keep its bases in Arab countries and the Persian Gulf littoral states and prevent the expansion of their ties with Iran.
"US objections to Iran's nuclear program, threats of sanctions and military strike on the country are all aimed at preserving the Zionist regime's status as the number one power in the region." He underlined that Iran's might will foil possible sanctions, because the country is able to cut off oil export and create crisis for the West and the US, adding, "Tehran can increase oil prices to more than 100 dollars (per barrel), and this will have a negative impact on industrial countries including the US."
