Gulf states on tension over Iran's nuclear program

Bahraini interior minister stressed on the Gulf Cooperation Council's (GCC) states extensive efforts to avert any tension in the region over Iran's nuclear program.
General Sheikh Rashid bin Abdallah bin Ahmad al-Khalifa said in an interview published on Sunday that GCC member states are concerned about any possible tension between the West and Iran.
He told the Kuwaiti daily As-Siyasa that the GCC does not have any objection to Iran's peaceful nuclear technology provided international community has confidence on the program.
Noting the GCC member states' interest in keeping the Middle East and Persian Gulf regions free of all nuclear weapons, he welcomed the proposal for GCC member states' access to peaceful nuclear technology.
Bahraini Minister of Interior Sheikh Rashed bin Abdullah al-Khalifa underlined that Iran's nuclear programs are peaceful and are not a threat to peace.
He made the remark in an interview with the Arab ultra-regional daily, Al-Sharq Al-Awsat, which was published on Sunday.
The minister said that neither Iran nor other countries face any obstacles in using new type of energies.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Seyed Mohammad-Ali Hosseini here Monday said that recent remarks of some officials from Persian Gulf littoral states on Iran's peaceful nuclear program are against the realities of the region and the atmosphere of friendly relations among regional states.
According to a report released by the Foreign Ministry Media Department, he said that combining non-genuine and doubtful concepts with each other is against regional interests.
"Unjust assessments and unusual remarks will not contribute to promoting regional security and cooperation," he added.
Underlining that Iran's nuclear activities are quite peaceful, the spokesman said, "Complying with our commitments to NPT, continuous inspection of our nuclear installations by International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors and IAEA confirmation that Iran has not deviated from peaceful course are the best guarantee of the peaceful nature of our nuclear activities."
