Abaza: Egypt strategy based on strong ties with Nile Basin countries
Egypt-Regional, Politics, 8/18/2006
Egyptian Agriculture Minister Amin Abaza said Egypt's agricultural strategy hinges on promoting ties binding Egypt with other Nile Basin countries.
In statements yesterday, Abaza, who inspected cotton fields in Sharqia Governorate, said developing the agricultural system in Egypt was the ministry's main objective during the current stage.
He further accentuated the necessity of rationalizing the consumption of water in irrigation, saying that only 4% of the water available is being made use of, while 96% is lost.
The cotton yield this year is expected to increase, he said, adding the increase was due to the application of the hi-tech agricultural methods. Some 22 countries offered to import Egyptian cotton, according to the minister.
