Lebanon-Egypt, Politics, 8/14/2006
Egypr's President Hosni Mubarak yesterday received a telephone call from Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Seniora in the framework of continuing consultations on halting the Israeli aggression and putting into effect the security resolutions No. 1701.
President Hosni Mubarak gave directives to the Electricity Minister to help reconstruct the Lebanese power grid.
For his part, Electricity Minister Hassan Younis telephoned his Lebanese counterpart Hassan Feneish and informed him of the Egyptian decision.
Feniesh expressed his country's gratitude for the Egyptian assistance.
The Lebanese Energy Minister said President Mubarak's decision to reconstruct the Lebanese power grid, destroyed in the ongoing Israeli aggression on Lebanon, reminded him of a similar move by Egypt in 2000.
Feneish will assess the needs for the Lebanese power grid reconstruction and inform the Egyptian side.
The Electricity Minister said a delegation of his ministry will visit Lebanon to consider the situation there on the ground and study the needs for the Lebanese power grid to efficiently reoperate.
In 2000, President Mubarak visited Lebanon a day after Israeli air force raided the Lebanese power grid and gave directives for the Egyptian Ministry of Electricity to rebuild it.
