Iran - US exchange criticism on Hizbullah, regional policies
Iran-Regional-USA, Politics, 8/14/2006

Visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki in Algeria today underlined that the US has wrong policies have made the Middle East unstable and insecure.

He said that the US policies on Iraq, Afghanistan and the Middle East have failed and its goals have not been achieved. "However, by continuing its wrong policies, the US further contributes to the insecurity and instability of the region," he added.

Today US president George W. Bush spoke negatively of Iran for its support of Lebanon's Hizbullah. Bush said Hizbullah lost during this last conflict with Israel, a view that is not widely shared. While the US cites Iran's support for Hizbullah, CNN reported Iranian officials saying that the US fails to mention its own support of Israel in providing it with weapons.

But Iran's Mottaki said that the Israel's aggression on Lebanon and its continuation for more than a month is in line with the US wrong regional policies. "They intended to achieve their goals by military operations in Lebanon, destruction of the country and killing of Lebanese people.

But fortunately, Lebanon's heroic resistance prevented them from achieving such goals," he added. He pointed to the resistance of Hizbullah and Lebanese people to the US policies and Israel's military defeat as a significant opportunity for Islamic and Arab states which should be used in the interests of regional people and countries.

Iran's Government spokesman Gholam-Hossein Elham said today that Hizbollah is the winner in the Israel- Lebanon war.
Addressing a weekly press briefing, he said that the fragile power of Israel has been shattered by the Islamic resistance movement.
"All those who take pride in their arsenals should know that the will of the people has the right to make the final say," he added.
