Egypt denies it will not fight for Lebanon
Egypt-Lebanon, Politics, 8/5/2006
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry categorically denied on Friday August 4 a report published by an Arab newspaper that Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul-Gheit had said that Egypt would neither sacrifice the blood of its sons for the sake of Arabs nor take part in a multinational peace-keeping force in Lebanon.
Spokesman of the Foreign Ministry Alaa el-Hadidi said that the foreign minister expressed his shock and surprise at the report.
"The report is aimed at pitting Egypt against the Arab world," he warned.
Such reports badly "harm our national interests," he noted, blaming the paper's correspondent that attended the press conference given by Abul-Gheit.
"He (the correspondent) lacked credibility and twisted facts according to his personal viewpoint," Hadidi said.
