Palestine-Israel, Politics, 8/3/2006
Israeli forces killed eight Palestinians including a 10-year-old boy in the southern Gaza Strip today.
Israeli troops carried out house-to-house searches in the Rafah area, for a soldier the Palestinians captured on June 25.
At least 162 Palestinians have been killed in the Israeli military actions to free the soldier. More than half the dead are women and children.
In the latest Israeli violence, Israeli helicopters raided civilian targets killing seven civilians including the boy. Another civilian was killed by gunfire and at least 25 Palestinians were wounded.
The Palestinian resistance forces with guns and anti-tank rockets confronted at least 50 armored vehicles as they pushed into Rafah.
At least one of the dead gunmen was from the armed wing of the Hamas-led government and another was from Islamic Jihad.
Israel has rejected demands by the armed wing of Hamas and the other groups to exchange the captured corporal Gilad Shalit for Palestinian prisoners.
Israeli forces were forced to withdraw from Gaza almost a year ago after 38 years of occupation.
