Iranian MP dismisses Iran's role in Palestine, Lebanon
Lebanon-Iran, Politics, 7/17/2006

Rapporteur of Iran's Majlis' National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Kazem Jalali yesterday dismissed the claim on "Iran's role in recent developments of Palestine and Lebanon" and denied any such role.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an open Majlis session, he said that the message of the late Imam Khomeini and the Islamic Revolution have resulted in the awakening of nations.

Turning to the "mischief of the Zionist regime and affiliated media' in the recent events in Lebanon, he said that Israel's current actions, which are supported by the US, are exactly like terrorism, as was said by the United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan."

The lawmaker from Shahroud said that the recent actions by Israel are aimed at changing the rules of the game. "Given Israel's failure to achieve its goals with regard to Hamas and Hizbullah, it is now attempting to undermine the resistance in Lebanon and disintegrate it."

Worth noting that Israel repeatedly violate Lebanon's sovereignty, air and sea, on a near daily basis, for which it has been asked repeatedly by the UN to stop doing so. Israel, shows no regard for international law, attacking Palestinian and Lebanese civilians and infrastructure. It does so knowing it has the best weapons given to it from the United States, and under the protection of the US veto at the UN Security Council where the US shoots down resolutions against Israel. Many international organizations have declared Israel to be in violation of International Humanitarian Law, Geneva Convention, organizations such as the Red Cross, Amnesty international, and others. The most recent public declaration that Israel has broken the Geneva Convention came days ago from the neutral country of Switzerland. The UN Human Rights Council two weeks ago also voted against Israel and agreed to investigate the Israel acts. Israel frames its aggressions as a defensive moves, without mentioning that it is an occupier and outlaw of international resolutions and laws. Despite its superior military might, Hizbullah dealt Israel a major defeat and was able to eject Israel from Lebanon after Israel invaded and occupied Lebanon several years ago.
