Lebanese abroad denounce Israel's aggressions on Lebanon
Lebanon-Israel, Politics, 7/17/2006
Hundreds of Lebanese have demonstrated in front of British Parliament in London against Israel's launch of indiscriminate bombings of civilians and the targeting of the country's civilian infrastructure.
Many of the protests, which included such slogans as "Israel terrorist" and "George Bush terrorist," were directed against the British Government, not only for failing to condemn Israel but for condoning the humanitarian crisis being caused.
Talking to some of the demonstrators on Sunday, the Muslim News said it was told by Zakaria Kamareddine, from the northern Lebanese coastal town of Nabatiya, that his town has been bombarded continuously by the Israeli with many casualties.
"Our people are suffering because the Israelis are bombing roads, electricity supplies and this is preventing food and medicine reaching villages," Kamareddine said.
He said he was optimistic of British people's support but was upset with Prime Minister Tony Blair, "who is supporting Israel against Lebanon." Israel could not have continued with the bombing of Lebanon "without the support of Britain, America and the other Western countries," the demonstrator said.
Nizar Abboud, 58, from Al-Khiyam, 5km from the Israeli border, said his town, which was razed to the ground by the Israelis in 1978, had again been "systematically bombed." The Israelis wanted to have a "security buffer zone" as they had done in the past after telling other towns and villages near the border to evacuate, Abboud said.
Among the demonstrators were a large number of young Lebanese, many born in Britain with families in Lebanon. These included 13- year-old Hanan Al-Hakim, who also criticized Britain and the US for being "behind Israel so Israel can do anything it wants." British born 22-year-old Batool Ali, told the Muslim News that it was hypocritical of the Zionist regime to claim Hizbullah was not implementing a UN resolution, saying "Israel doesn't care about UN resolutions. She has refused to obey even one UN resolution.
Batool, whose family is from Baalbek, said she was shocked that Britain was supporting Israel even though they have killed a large number of civilians and is destroying the civilian infrastructure of Lebanon.
"Blair doesn't care about us. More than 100 civilians have been killed by Israel. The US and the West can only see that 8 Israelis have been killed," she said.
Batool said the West was "quick to label Hizbullah as terrorist but Israel, which kills and has killed hundreds of civilians is not considered as such. Where is the justice?" She said she is "sad that no one is stopping the Israeli aggression." She was also angry at some news organizations which she said was one-sided by supporting Israel, saying "They are giving so much time when one Israeli civilian is killed but over a hundred Lebanese civilians have been killed they hardly mention them."
A large number of Lebanese and Arab residents of Belgium held a rally in front of the EU headquarters in Brussels today denouncing Israel's massacres in Lebanon.
"Stop the terrible genocide in Lebanon," read a placard held by the demonstrators. "Death to Israel," chanted some protestors in Arabic. Other protestors who included women and children held a placard saying "America and Israel, how can you sleep at night".
"US and Israel are terrorist states," chanted some protestors who raised Lebanese flag.
Worth noting that Israel repeatedly violate Lebanon's sovereignty, air and sea, on a near daily basis, for which it has been asked repeatedly by the UN to stop doing so. Israel, shows no regard for international law, attacking Palestinian and Lebanese civilians and infrastructure. It does so knowing it has the best weapons given to it from the United States, and under the protection of the US veto at the UN Security Council where the US shoots down resolutions against Israel. Many international organizations have declared Israel to be in violation of International Humanitarian Law, Geneva Convention, organizations such as the Red Cross, Amnesty international, and others. The most recent public declaration that Israel has broken the Geneva Convention came days ago from the neutral country of Switzerland. The UN Human Rights Council two weeks ago also voted against Israel and agreed to investigate the Israel acts. Israel frames its aggressions as a defensive moves, without mentioning that it is an occupier and outlaw of international resolutions and laws.
