Iraqis to unite asking US to leave?
Regional-USA, Analysis, 7/15/2006

With the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian civilians and power stations and schools, and the naked aggression on Lebanon's civilians and their airports and roads, in what Switzerland said days ago to be a violation of International Humanitarian Law, the Geneva Convention, the US policy of supporting the Israeli attacks by justifying them may lead to severe effect on US presence in the region.

When a resolution was introduced at the United Nations Security Council this week against Israel to stop its aggressions, the United States vetoed the resolution. Further more, the White House defended Israel's action.

Such a US position leads one to believe that the US supports those who violate International Humanitarian Law. As such, the US policy can be considered complicit with those violating the Geneva Convention. It is not clear if the USA policy is being done for US interests or Israeli supporters who some claim to control the US policy. The recent Harvard report about the damage Israeli supporters are doing to US interests illustrates this point very well.

As such, the US is suffering greatly, and is clearly on the wrong side of the issue. The US has made many serious mistakes in its policy in the Middle East. The Iraq invasion was such a point. It merely served to bring the country suffering, after there previous suffering. There are better ways to solve problems than by bombing, and the US is setting a bad example, by accepting this logic of Israel. In so doing, the US has allowed great harm to many people, and as such has a direct responsibility in the issues.

The harm done against the Palestinians, the Lebanese and Iraqis leads one to a direct question: How much can the region tolerate of this harm? Iraq certainly is a big mess. Enormous amount of death and suffering. Palestinians suffering daily brutality of an occupier. Lebanese civilians having their lives, livelihoods, roads, and airports, once again destroyed by Israel. Iraqi daily death numbers can be about 400 per day, if Iraq's population size was the size of the US. These are only the declared deaths, and not the wounded and injured, and those that have their businesses and livelihood and lives in shattered. Is it worth it? Is this the path to solving problems?

If the US does not help against these naked Israeli aggressions on civilians, then maybe the US should be given some help. Maybe the Iraqis can help themselves and the US too. The Iraqis, all of them, may unite in their call for the US to leave Iraq in an expedited manner. The Iraqis can and should be able to get together at a round negotiated table. By the US leaving, those who do not want foreign forces will not have a major reason for their acts of trying to expel the US. Peace may quickly come to Iraq, and the neighbors of Iraq can pitch in to make this a reality.

Iraq's speaker of Iraq's National Assembly Mahmoud al-Mashadani early this month, is reported to have called the US an occupying power that appointed Saddam Hussein "to help it materialize its arrogant goals. Now the US intends to assign another substitute in Iraq who will continue working towards its goals."

The US is deeply hated by many citizens of the region, and world wide, for arming, allowing, and justifying Israel's aggressions against impoverished, long suffering occupied people, and bullying and naked aggressions on other civilians in the region. Indications are that these private studies of this reality is kept behind closed doors of US government officials, away from the US public, with spin added to the explanation of it to the public.

As for the US being asked by Iraqis to leave Iraq, this will help officials to reflect on the US true interest in the region. Is it Israel's interest that matters or that of the US? Long conditioning by Israel's friends has led some to be confused about thinking that these interests are the same. The United States public has paid extremely high cost for such thinking, and the mistakes they have led to.
