Lahoud stresses unity against Israel's aggressions
Lebanon-Israel, Politics, 7/14/2006

Over the past 24 hours, Israeli air and ground forces bombarded various locations in Lebanon, including Beirut International Airport, as well as several bridges and power stations. About 60 Lebanese were killed and more than 70 wounded in the attacks

Lebanon's parliament speaker Nabih Berri said that the Israeli enemy has kept on attacking civilian areas.

Berri had said 47 civilians have so far been martyred and more than 130 injured.

He added that Israel has targeted civilian regions and the infrastructure of Lebanon including bridges and hotels.

He pointed out the resistance of the Lebanese people against the atrocities of the Israeli regime, stressing unity among the nation of Lebanon.

Lebanon's President Emile Lahoud stressed yesterday that "We want nothing except materialization of our rights and we will resist and insist on this."

Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadi-Nejad while speaking with Lahoud late yesterday also underlined the importance of maintaining unity and solidarity among Lebanese people in this sensitive time.

In a telephone conversation, President Ahmadi-Nejad expressed sorrow over the death of some Lebanese people and financial damage on the infrastructure of Lebanon because of the Israeli strikes.

He said the Iranian government and nation give support to Lebanon.

"We feel united with the Lebanese people and government," he said, "hoping for their victory over the Zionist regime."

Lebanon's Lahoud elucidated latest developments in Lebanon and thanked Iran for its aid. Lahoud said the Lebanese people will go on their resistance against the Israeli attacks, and assured that victory will be for the Lebanese nation and army.

Switzerland as recently as days ago said Israel's attacks on civilians are a violation of international humanitarian law, which means a violation of the Geneva Convention. The UN civil rights committee has voted to start an investigation into Israel's actions.
