Abbas heads meeting of Fateh cadres
Palestine, Politics, 7/12/2006

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas today headed in Ramallah a meeting of the Palestinian National Liberation Movement, Fateh cadres.

The President briefed the cadres on the latest developments in the Palestinian arena in the light of the continued Israeli escalation against citizens and infrastructure in the Gaza Strip.

"We had made many contacts with world leaders and offficials to solve the crisis through diplomatic means," he added, "the Egyptian are continuing their efforts in this direction. We have to exert every possible effort to evade the Israeli killing and destruction."

"The Gaza Strip is passing through humanitarian catastrophe," the President said.

Referring to National dialogue and the agreement on the National Reconciliation Document, he said that "we have frozen in this stage the referendum," adding that "if the agreement is rejected the referendum will take place as scheduled on 26 July."
