Iran, Syria support people's resistance to occupation of region
Syria-Iran, Politics, 7/12/2006

Iran's visiting Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani in a meeting with Syria's Foreign Minister Walid Muaallem today supported "the resistance of regional people to foreign troops occupying the region."

At the meeting, Larijani and Muaallem stated that continuation of resistance in Palestine and confrontation of Iran and Syria to foreign pressures have been fruitful, adding that resistance is the only option leading to success and victory.

Muaallem said that the outcome of Tehran meeting on Iraq was successful and called for the cooperation and support of Iraq's neighbors for the country.

"At the meeting in Tehran, I noticed Iran's strong resistance to foreign pressures and that there is no possibility of air raid on the country," he added.

Larijani in a meeting with Syria's President Bashar al-Assad today briefed him on the latest developments in Iran's nuclear issue and the outcome of his talks with European officials.

Larijani underlined that the two countries should cooperate to promote tranquility in Iraq and strengthen the country's permanent government headed by Prime Minister Nouri al-Maleki.

Stressing that the regional countries should cooperate to solve the Palestinian issue, Larijani said, "Syria's resistance and call for its rights mainly account for its achievement in overcoming all the ups and downs encountered along the path."

President al-Assad said that Iran and Syria should continue their cooperation in support of the Iraqi nation and prepare the grounds for withdrawal of the US troops from the country

Al-Assad underlined that his country supports Iran's legitimate rights, including its right to access nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
