Iranian officials condemn Israeli crimes in Palestine
Palestine-Iran, Politics, 7/3/2006

Iran's Government Spokesman Gholam-Hossein Elham condemned today the recent crimes and atrocities committed by the Zionists in the occupied Palestine.

Speaking to reporters in his weekly press briefing, he said although the Zionists claim that they abide by the minimum rights of Palestinians but this is a pure fabrication which has its roots in the terrorist nature of the Zionists.

The recent crimes committed by Zionists who have exerted new economic pressure on Gaza city and Palestinians once again has hurt the hearts of human beings, he said.

He expressed the hope that the international community would seriously deal with such crimes and launch a campaign against terrorism by confronting the Zionist regime and helping prepare the grounds to revive democracy.

Failure in seriously dealing with the issue would be regarded as a black spot and seal the doom of claims raised by those who talk about restoration of tranquility, peace and campaign against terrorism, Elham said.

Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad yesterday evening condemned the latest Israeli atrocities against Palestinians and the continuing silence of world governments and international bodies to the escalation of violence in the occupied territories.

Addressing a cabinet session, the Iranian president said the crimes are an indication of the failure of the West's so-called "roadmap" to resolving the Palestinian issue which is premised in a co-existence of an Israeli and the Palestinian independent government.

He further focused on the importance of the Palestinian issue for Islamic and freedom-seeking countries in the struggle to defeat the bullying powers of the world. The so-called champions of liberalism and democracy have shown no respect for the votes of the Palestinian people for a democratic government of their choice at a most difficult time, he said, adding that they (international bodies) attempted to overthrow the Palestinian government by cutting off financial aid to them.

Meantime, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi here Sunday said that the Zionist regime will eventually burn in the flame of the fire started by itself.

Asefi made the remark while speaking to domestic and foreign reporters in this week's briefing session as he pointed to the recent attacks launched by the Zionists on the Gaza Strip, during which they kidnapped a number of Palestinian officials.

Turning to the extremely bitter incidents in the occupied lands, he said that the inefficient and wrong policies of the Zionist regime accounted for them.

The Foreign Ministry spokesman said that the Zionist regime is enraged seeing "the free elections in Palestine and taking charge of affairs by the popular government-elect," after which it has taken `insane measures'.

He said that the new crisis started after innocent individuals were kidnapped and taken hostage by the Zionist regime.

Stressing that "the moves of the Zionist regime are against any international criterion," he dismissed the pretext for such measures and said that the regime itself took inhuman measures.

He referred to "the growing isolation of the Zionist regime on the international scene" and "the continuity of resistance of the Palestinian people as other reasons for their fury."

Asefi said that given the Zionists intend to damage the economy and infrastructure of Gaza Strip, the international community should pressurize them to avoid disrupting the flow of relief aid to the Palestinian people, including food, medicine and fuel.
