PLO criticizes Arabs' silence on Palestine incidents
Palestine-Regional, Politics, 7/3/2006
Representative of Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) in Lebanon Abbas Zaki on Monday strongly criticized the silence of Arab communities and governments towards Israel's aggressions and the incidents in Palestine.
He said the political systems of the Arab states do not show any reaction towards the latest developments in Palestine on account of their good relations with the US, adding that Washington is only concerned on protecting Israel's security in the Middle East.
Zaki underlined that the Palestinian people and combatants have the right to make use of all means to defend themselves against the aggressions of the Zionist regime in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank of the Jordan River.
In the latest Israeli attack on Gaza and West Bank, three Palestinians were martyred and more than 12 others wounded.
"As long as the Palestinian soil remains under Israeli occupation, according to international laws, the Palestinian combatants are authorized to use any possible means, including weapons, against the Zionist regime.
"The aggression of Israel on Palestinian territory resulted in unity among Palestinian groups, prevented a civil war and served to prioritize confrontation with the Zionist regime," added the PLO official.
He said that at present, there is no conflict between the PLO and government, adding, "They have been unified to stand against the Zionist regime's war machine, given that Israel does not make a distinction between the Fatah and Hamas movements. Similar to bombardment of Fatah bases, they targeted those of Hamas." Zaki criticized the hue and cry of the Zionist regime over its military war prisoner in Gaza, Corporal Gilad Shalit, and said that the world community hastily attempts to release him.
"This is despite the silence of the world community to the call for release of more than 10,000 Palestinian citizens jailed in Israel," he added.
The PLO representative said, "On June 28, 2006, the Zionist regime kidnapped 64 Hamas officials, who were elected in the recent democratic election, including eight ministers and 24 members of parliament." Turning to the arrested officials as the leaders of Palestinian people, Zaki said that Israel is furious over the free election in Palestine and could not tolerate it.
