Iran will repsond after studying the nuclear offer
Iran-UN, Politics, 6/14/2006
Iran's Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said today that comprehensive understanding on Iran's nuclear case can be achieved if good will and serious political will exist. Such an understanding will restore the rights of one side Iran and put an end to the concerns of the other Western states.
Mottaki told reporters Iran has started examining the content of the package submitted by Solana. "The study of the offered proposals will be done thoroughly and precisely," he stressed.
Asked when Iran is expected to declare its view on the received proposal, he said, "After full assessment of the proposal we will let our European partners and members of the 5+1 group know the result. Then we can make a decision together.
"Through exchange of ideas, we will decide how to approach the issue, continue to solve it and put an end to the crisis."
He said about his visit to Spain, that, by officially recognizing Iran's right to access nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, Spain has always underlined that the nuclear issue should be solved through diplomatic means and urges the international community to win Iran's satisfaction over the approach to settle the matter.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi said today responding to a question on remarks made recently by International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) chief Mohamed ElBaradei that certain questions have still to be answered by Iran, Asefi said that the tenor of ElBaradei's report nonetheless indicates that Iran had sufficiently cooperated with the IAEA.
"The report clearly states that nuclear activities conducted in Isfahan and Natanz had been under the agency's surveillance." Asefi also pointed out that Article 18 of ElBaradei's report expressly states that the IAEA had not uncovered evidence showing any diversion in Iran's nuclear activities from their stated purpose.
He said "the US cannot create a consensus against Iran's nuclear program. Rather, a consensus has been reached against the US' stance on Iran," adding "The protest of the NAM representative at the IAEA to a letter sent to them by the US ambassador to the IAEA shows a consensus has been reached against Washington."
Mexican Ambassador to Tehran Luis Ortiz Monasterio said that Iran is entitled to access nuclear energy for peaceful purposes and defended its right to possess the complete uranium enrichment cycle. In an interview with a Mexican daily, La Jornada, -- based in Mexico City -- published on Tuesday, he said that what is taking place in Iran is similar to what occurred in Mexico's oil sector in 1938.
"Back in 1938, the US, British and Dutch governments said that Mexico is not sufficiently competent to control such a sensitive industry. "This is the same thing taking place in your country, despite your right to the full control of nuclear fuel cycle," he added.
Iran has stated that making its own nuclear fuel is an absolute right that is not subject to compromise, however, Iran said it is willing to offer assurances for those who are making unsubstantiated claims about future potential conversion of nuclear facilities to nuclear facilities, that this is not taking place.
However, Iran has suspicion that efforts being exerted by those claiming to seek assurances are nothing more than a veiled effort against Iran to strip it from its rights.
