Iraqi vice president confers with Iran's president

Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadi-Nejad today said that Iran and Iraq have longstanding historical and cultural amity and called for developing cooperation between the two countries in all fields.

In a meeting with visiting Iraqi Vice President Adel Abd al-Mahdi, President Ahmadi-Nejad said that optimum use should be made of the extensive capacity for economic cooperation.

He said that progress of any of the Islamic states would benefit the other Muslims and the region adding that establishment of democratic government in Iraq and restoration of security in Iraq and Iraqi progress are considered an achievement for the entire Muslims.

Ahmadi-Nejad said that national solidarity of Iraqi people and their political parties is the key for progress of the country.

"They should not allow insecurity to continue and prepare the ground for putting an end to occupation which will lead to the plunder of Iraqi resources," President Ahmadi-Nejad said.

Abd al-Mahdi said that Baghdad government has planned development projects and admitted that the enemies are sabotaging national security which will doom thanks to vigilance of the people.

The vice president underscored developing Iran-Iraq relations and said that Iraq is willing to utilize Iranian experience and capabilities in all fields including water, electricity and oil industry.

Iraqi government believes that capacity for economic cooperation is greater than the current level.
