Larijani warns against threats in talks with Mubarak
Egypt-Iraq, Politics, 6/12/2006

Iran's Supreme National Security Council Secretary Ali Larijani left Egypt yesterday, to Algeria.

In Egypt, Larijani held a meeting with President Hosni Mubarak and discussed bilateral cooperation and "issues of joint interest between the two Muslim states as well as key international and regional developments, particularly the situation in Palestine and Iraq and the Iran nuclear issue."

The SNSC secretary, in the talks, outlined Iran's stance on the use of nuclear energy and stressed the need to continue Tehran's cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Larijani said referring to the package of incentives offered to Iran that there were "positive points" as well as "ambiguities" in the new proposal, and voiced Iran's opposition to threats and pre-conditions for resumption of nuclear talks.

Mubarak, for his part, stressed the importance of continuing current consultations and exchange of views between the two important countries in the region, particularly at this sensitive period.

He voiced his country's support for Iran's nuclear policies and said resumption of talks between the European states and Iran would be the proper solution to the nuclear dispute.

Iran is a powerful country in the region and the world and can strongly defend its national interests, he noted.
