Mubarak asks governorates to meet citizens' needs
Egypt, Politics, 6/9/2006

Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak, in his capacity as the leader of the National Democratic Party (NDP), attended a meeting yesterday with the party's parliamentary body in the governorates of Giza, Damietta, the Red Sea, North Sinai and South Sinai.

The President entrusted the government to facilitate possession of cultivated lands and houses to the North and South Sinai locals at affordable prices, and called on the government to give priority to Sinai's youth who enjoy required qualifications to work in the oil and electricity sectors, and provide financial allocations to raise incentives of employees in Sinai by 80 per cent.

When talks touched on the area's L.E. 230 million water project, Housing and Public Utilities Minister Ahmed Al-Maghrabi told the president that work on it would be completed by the end of this year. He called for providing due finance allocations to complete these projects in north and south Sinai.

He also discussed plans to establish two industrial zones in Al-Koraymat and Al-Ayat in Giza governorate and asserted the need to finish work at Qena-Safaga- Al-Qussir water pipeline and develop Shalateen crossing on the Egyptian borders with Sudan.

Mubarak said that the five-year plan and the 2006- 2007 state budget were compatible with his electoral program that promised to offer low-income civil servants a 17.5 per cent pay raise.

Meanwhile, NDP Secretary General Safwat Al-Sherif said the meeting fell within the framework of Mubarak to meet with members of the NDP parliamentary board every now and to keep freshly posted on the affairs of each and every governorate in the country and seek appropriate solutions for the citizens' problems.

He said that the president discussed with the members of parliament some domestic affairs underlining the government's responsibility towards making achievements on the ground and in a way that can be felt by the ordinary citizens.

The discussions also dwelt on proposed constitutional reforms that would be presented before the parliament when it reconvenes after its summer recess.
