Hariri condemns Nasrallah supporters reactions
Lebanon, Politics, 6/3/2006
Lebanese MP Saad al-Hariri commented about Thursday night's disturbances in Beirut on national dialogue, and condemned the rioting that followed anger over a satire television show that included a character representing Hizbullah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah.
Hariri said the expression of opinion could be done in a civilized manner, without harming private property.
Hariri said the national dialogue conference which will resume on Thursday will include all the country's political leaders, adding Hizbullah's arms will be on the agenda of discussions.
Today, the Daily Star noted that Thursday night, "Several thousand Hizbullah supporters took to the streets of Beirut's southern suburbs late Thursday night, burning tires and blocking roads in protest against a television comedy show that impersonated the group's leader, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah." It added "Hundreds of Hizbullah supporters immediately went out into the streets of Beirut's southern suburbs, the Shiite group's stronghold," chanting slogans of support.
