Saudi Arabia, Yemen says focus should be on Israel, not Iran
Saudi Arabia-Iran, Politics, 6/3/2006
Saudi Arabia and Yemen declared that every country is entitled to access nuclear technology for peaceful purposes, including Iran.
In the closing statement issued by the two states at the end of 17th joint coordinating council meeting on Friday night, both Saudi Arabia and Yemen supported some diplomatic measures taken to solve the crisis caused by the West's hue and cry over Iran's nuclear issue.
The statement said, "To promote peace in Middle East, Israel should sign the treaty on non-proliferation of nuclear weapons and accept inspection of its nuclear facilities by international bodies, in particular the UN nuclear watchdog."
Meanwhile, the two states urged the regional states to avoid sparking the nuclear weapons contest as a significant measure towards promotion of peace and stability in the region.
Both countries assessed a Middle East free from weapons of mass destruction, in particular nuclear arms, as the precondition for promoting the general security of all regional countries.
The 17th Saudi Arabia-Yemen Coordinating Council Meeting was held in the Yemenese city of Mukkala and was presided by Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Sultan Ibn Abdulaziz.
