Fateh Central Committee agrees on general referendum
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 6/1/2006
Fateh Central Committee agreed upon conducting general referendum on basis of the National Reconciliation Document proposed by pioneer Palestinian prisoners, if National Dialogue did not reach conclusion.
In presence of President Mamoud Abbas, the Central Committee held yesterday night a meeting at the residence of its Secretary Farouk al-Qaddoumi in Tunis.
Fateh Central Committee member, Ahmad Qurei told Thursday WAFA, that the committee thoroughly discussed the prisoners document, considering it as a basis for the National Dialogue.
He added the Committee agreed upon reactivating the PLO, revealing that there would be a meeting in the near future between Palestinian factions to discuss the issue of reactivation.
Meantime, the White House spokesman noted yesterday while answering a question that "President Abbas has said to Hamas that they need, within a very short span of time, to go ahead and recognize Israel," adding that if that does not happen "it means that it gets to dissolve the government." Asked "Do you think the Palestinians will then vote the other way?" Snow said "I don't know."
