Lebanese parliament rejects Syrian request against Junblatt
Lebanon-Syria, Politics, 5/30/2006
Lebanon's parliament rejected a Syrian arrest warrants against Lebanese Druze leader and member of parliament Walid Junblatt.
Junblatt, who sees Syria as having killed Lebanese nationalist leaders, including his father, has been outspoken against what he said is the corruptive Syrian influence on Lebanon. He also called for the removal of the Syrian regime.
A Yahoo news report said the parliament voted overwhelmingly to reject the Syrian warrant request adding that the Lebanese parliament approved a motion that stated that it "denounces the arrest warrants" and "considering them anti-constitutional and harming the dignity of parliament and the Lebanese people that it represents."
The report added "Since (the warrants) are rejected in form and content, parliament has decided to reject the demand," thus nullifying the arrest warrants in Lebanon.
