Iran-Iraq railroads connections coming
Iraq-Iran, Economics, 5/29/2006
Iran's cabinet approved yesterday a previously signed agreement on connecting Iran's railroad to that of Iraq in southern and western parts of that country.
According to the approval, Iran's ministries of road and transportation, defense and foreign affairs as well as the Management and Planning Organization should help in implementing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in July 2005 by the Iranian and Iraqi officials in Tehran.
The document was inked for expansion of Iran-Iraq rail, road, sea and air links during a visit to Tehran by the then Iraqi transportation minister Salam al-Maliki.
It emphasized the need for connection of Iran's southern city of Khorramshahr in Khuzestan province to the Iraqi city of Khosravi through rail tracks.
The MoU also called on the two capitals to follow up another development project for connecting Iranian industrial city of Arak in central province of Markazi to the Iraqi capital of Baghdad.
