Iran - Pakistan gas pipeline discussions
Iran-Pakistan, Economics, 5/27/2006

Iran's First Vice-President Parviz Davoudi yesterday said that during his visit to Pakistan the two sides held useful discussions at the expert level on the proposed Iran-Pakistan- India (IPI) gas pipeline.

Speaking to reporters at Tehran Mehrabad International Airport upon his arrival from Islamabad, Davoudi said there were, however, differences, on gas pricing.

Nonetheless, he said, the two sides agreed that they would continue their discussions at the expert level to reach agreement on pricing.

According to Davoudi, the current Tehran-Islamabad trade volume stands at $ 400 million, which is very much lower than expected considering their existing potentials.

Davoudi also said that during his two-day visit to Pakistan he discussed major bilateral and regional developments with senior Pakistani officials, including President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz.

Major bilateral issues including security and trade relations, developments at the regional and international level as well as issues of concern came under discussion, said the vice-president.

Security at the borders is the overriding consideration in any plan to raise the present level of trade ties between the two capitals, Davoudi said in his talks with Pakistani officials.
