Setting up Egyptian taxation department
Egypt, Economics, 5/24/2006
Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak yesterday issued a Republican Decree setting up the new Egyptian taxation department.
"The new department groups the department of taxation on income and the sales tax department," said Minister of Finance Dr. Yousef Boutros Ghali at a meeting with tax officials.
The establishment of the new department is meant to implement the second phase of taxation reform, whose first phase has already started with the issuance of the new taxation law, he pointed out.
The ministry sought the help of international experts and consulting firms together with Egyptian thinkers to prepare cadres for the new department and prepare administrative structure of the new department, he added.
All files of taxpayers are confidential, he said, adding that nobody would be allowed to have access to such files except on the power of a court order.
The new taxation department revenues are expected to reach LE 92 billion, the Minister said.
