Egypt efforts to combat bird flu

With the following up of the Ministerial Committee chaired by Egypt's Minister of Health Hatem el-Gabali on the spread out of bird flu in Egypt, the committee has reviewed all measures taken in this regard as follows:
First: 22 specimens of persons involved with deceased or infected birds were tested yesterday. The specimens were taken from people from the governorates of (Cairo, Sohag, Damietta, Beheira, Giza, Qalubiya, Minufiya, Kafr el-Sheikh, Ismailia and Alexandria). All specimens tested negative to H5N1.
Second: Daily report on the spread out of bird flu among birds:
17 samples of 2427 tested samples in 16 governorates were positive to H5N1. Only 16 infected cases were proved in domestic fowls in Sohag and Daqahliya (one farm in Daqahliya). All birds in the farm were culled.
Sohag: 14 positive cases were detected in domestic fowls in the districts of (Sohag-Dar el-Salam- Al-Maragha).
Daqahliya: 3 positive cases were detected (2 cases of domestic fowls and one case in a farm) in the districts of Mitghamr and Miniat al-Nasr.
No case tested positive to H5N1 in the other governorates.
