Nazif: Emergency law changes due within two years
Egypt, Politics, 5/23/2006

Egypt's Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif said we are not in a hurry to go ahead with political reform, referring to a clear-cut political reform program.

He said that political reform was launched by presidential elections, adding that there are two committees in the People's Assembly and the Shura Council for discussing the amendment of the constitution.

He said that President Mubarak would present the upcoming parliamentary session with specific amendments of the constitution.

He said that the cancellation of the emergency law is not linked to the constitution, adding that Egypt hopes that anti-terror bill would be drafted in a maximum period of two years.

He also said that the Egyptian political system does not allow the establishment of religious parties.
