Abbas: Roadmap is only reference to peace with Israel
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 5/20/2006
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas renewed Saturday his full rejection to the Israeli unilateral moves and solutions.
President Abbas statements came during a joint press conference following his meeting with the Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmed Badawi on the margin of the World Economic Forum on the Middle East.
Abbas said that he discussed with PM Badawi the issue of resuming negotiations on basis of the Road Map as well as the leadership's opposition to any unilateral solutions.
He told the press conference that they also discussed the ways possible to bring financial aid to the Palestinian territories, pointing out that the Malaysian PM promised to leave no stone unturned to support the Palestinian people.
President Abbas stressed that "we only have one choice which is peace," adding "even if the Israelis don't want peace, we need it."
Regarding his meeting with Israeli Vice Premier, Shimon Peres and Israeli Foreign Minister, Tzipi Livni, President Abbas revealed the meeting is not clandestine, adding that he will inform them that the Roadmap is the only reference.
