Palestinians new security force deployed

Palestinian Interior Minister Saiid Sayam, from Hamas, announced that a new security force, previously vetoed by Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas, has started operating in Gaza.

Sayam said today the three thousand member is composed from all Palestinian factions. The new force will report to the interior ministry.

The Washington Post said today that the Hamas' announcement came after mysterious drive-by shootings that killed two of its militants hours earlier in the Gaza." Fatah and Hamas have been said to have exchanged infighting recently.

The Washington Post said "Control over security forces has been at the center of power wrangling since Hamas ousted Abbas' long-ruling Fatah party in January parliamentary elections," and this new army is aimed at control security in this regard and prevent assaults on Hamas members.

Hamas and Fatah have had divergent views on their approach to policy regarding Israel and who should control the agenda.
