Syrian court summons against Walid Junblat

Gulf News yesterday reported that Syria had issued a court summons against Walid Junblat delivered to the Lebanon authority.

The report said "Syrian attorney Hossam Al Deen Habash, who launched the lawsuit against Jumblat, said that once the three have been formally notified of the summons, they have a week to appear before the Syrian court Otherwise, they face 'arrest warrants and trials in absentia'," adding "I personally filed the lawsuit against Jumblatt because he incited a foreign country (United States) to occupy my country." Previously.

Most recently, al-Manar report that the opposing 'Syrian Brotherhood' met anti-Syrian Walid Jumbalt in Lebanon, and "congratulated him on what they labeled the liberation of Lebanon from Syrian occupation."

The Daily Star had noted earlier that the Lebanese officials in regard to the summons that only Lebanon's law are relevant.

Walid Junblat has spoken against Syria's influence and its regime as a very corrupting influence on Lebanon's democratic institutions and culture. Relation between Junblat and Syria has had temporary ups but mostly downs in recent history, with the relation seemingly laced with much suspicion. Walid Junblat had previously accused the Syrian officials of assassinating his father, Kamal Junblat, who was a very well-known Lebanese politician and leader.
