Syria, Iran IT and telecommunication agreements

The Islamic Republic of Iran and Syria today signed 23 agreements on telecommunication and Information Technology (IT).

The agreements were inked by Iran's Minister of Telecommunications Mohammad Soleimani and his Syrian counterpart Amr Nazir Salem in Tehran.

The initial monetary values of each agreement has been estimated at $ 30 million which will be increased to $ 100 million, Soleimani said.

"We expect to increase the value of such agreements to dlrs 500 million in a year," he said.
The Syrian communication and technology minister heading a high ranking delegation arrived in Tehran on Saturday to study expansion of mutual cooperation and sign agreements on jointly run projects.

The Iranian state-run organizations along with the country's private sector have the chance to play a much more active role in Syrian industrial and telecommunication projects, he pointed out.

During the meeting between the Iranian and Syrian delegations the two sides explored grounds for expansion of mutual cooperation in Information Technology field.

Nazir Salem, for his part, said that the Syrian government will develop its information dissemination network and fixed as well as mobile phone services through "NGN" network and in this connection consultations between the two sides can be fruitful.

The Syrian minister emphasized the expansion of cooperation in the field of communications and said, "By exchanging information, we can prevent unnecessary repetition in designing and programming in industry sectory and the two markets can be unified."
