Gomaa attends ceremony consecrating new Patriarch

Mufti of Egypt, Ali Gomaa, yesterday attended the ceremony given for consecrating Anba Antonios Naguib as the new Patriarch of Catholic Copts in Egypt that was held at the Church of the Virgin Mary in Cairo.
Attending also was a large number of senior Egyptian officials and Christian top figures from Egypt and other Arab countries along with representatives from the Egyptian presidency, the Cabinet, the People's Assembly and the Shura Council.
A speech was delivered by the new Patriarch in which he thanked President Hosni Mubarak and Egypt's officials for attending his inauguration ceremony.
He spoke of the depth and strength of national unity in Egypt, with Muslims and Copts representing one and the same fabric.
Pope Benedict XVI of the Vatican sent a message of congratulations to the new Patriarch of Catholic Copts that was read out at the ceremony.
Bishop Naguib was ordained priest in 1960.
