US war threats to Iran aimed at nuclear status
Iran-USA, Politics, 5/2/2006

The Islamic Republic of Iran does not want war and is still ready to hold talks over its nuclear program, Iranian Ambassador to Denmark Ahmad Daniali said in an interview with the Danish Politiken newspaper.

"Although we are being threatened militarily, we are not pursuing war. We believe."there is still a way for negotiation," the Iranian official said.

Iran has continuously expressed interest in negotiation that shows respect to the rights of the Iranian nation away from what it called bullying by military powers, while at the same time clearly indicating that it will not fail to take all needed measures in its defense and interest to maintain its rights.

Harsh language used by US officials and threats by the Washington administration of the use of military force on Iran show their deep hostility to the Islamic system and lack of respect for international laws, former president Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said here Monday.

During a meeting with officials of various labor groups on the occasion of International Labor Day Monday, Rafsanjani, who heads the powerful Expediency Council, said that enemies of the Islamic Republic are frightened by Tehran's latest scientific achievements.

"The excuses the enemies give for Iran's nuclear achievements and their attempts to intimidate the world by giving the impression that Iran has a nuclear bomb have all been because they generally fear progress on the part of the Iranian nation," Rafsanjani said.
He criticized language used by leaders of certain Western countries when speaking about Iran as "inconsistent with the usual language used in international circles."

"This shows the depth of their hostility to Iran, lack of respect for international norms and disregard of the current situation," Rafsanjani stressed. He said that in this sensitive situation, Iranians can act to defuse enemy plots through sustained resistance and unity with the revolutionary forces.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran will pass through this situation by protecting its legitimate rights, preserving its national unity and acting wisely," Rafsanjani said.

Daniali stressed that the UN nuclear agency had not found any evidence of nuclear material having been diverted other than for civil use. Iranian officials see the events surrounding the nuclear case as political and have little to do with their nuclear compliance. The US has flatly indicated that, even with Iran's compliance, it does not want to see Iran have skills and capabilities to develop civil nuclear technology, simply because the US merely does not want Iran to have such potential.

Daniali warned against "dangerous adventurism" by certain countries in the Middle. He said "History is a witness that we (Iranians) have never attacked another country," however, on the other side there are those countries which are threatening us now and have helped our enemies, among these the former Iraqi regime of Saddam Hussein, to assault us."

Interior Minister Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi today said it was unlikely the United States would attack Iran "Nevertheless, we should not disregard precautionary and preventive measures.. Enemies have always created dangers. We have the duty to be vigilant and not allow disasters take place."

Iran's Secretary of Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani yesterday said that US threats of military action against Iran is "psychological publicity," and that " The constant repetition of the issue aims to influence our behavior which has also been carried in the past. They should know that today's Iran is different than the past."

Larijani commented on Iran leaving the the Non-proliferation Treaty (NPT) saying this depends on their actions and "we are not going to leave the NPT unless we are forced to do so."

On the West's assertions that they have problems in dealing with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's government, Larijani added "they said the same thing with the Khatami's government. The real issue is that they do not want Iran to possess peaceful nuclear technology and become a nuclear power."
